EXHIBITIONS

The Cairns Cultural Precinct

This beautiful new art space is seeking expressions of interest from primary school-aged children living in the Far North Queensland Region, who wish to participate in the Curated Exhibition entitled ‘Boats of Our People’.

The Exhibition will be launched to coincide with the Cairns Children’s Festival in May 2021 at the newly refurbished Cairns Cultural Precinct (formerly the Cairns Courthouse Building).

This is an exciting opportunity for young artists aged between 8 to 12 years to have their work exhibited at an art gallery and receive public recognition for their skills and creativity.

  • Interested participates are to create an original artwork based on their interpretation of the theme ‘Boats of Our People’.
  • Only one entry is permitted per participant
  • The artwork must have a title and an accompanying artist statement.
  • Applications are now open and close 4 pm, Friday 2 April 2021
  • For more information, please contact sorami.o@outlook.com

As always the gallery has a brilliant range of events, classes and world-class exhibitions happening.  Keep an eye out on their social media for an entire array for activities over the Easter period for all the family.

‘Ritual The Past and Present’

15 May – 22 August ’21

RITUAL the past in the present extends the Gallery’s research interest in contemporary art practices that explore narratives around issues of Australian Indigenous and global black identity in the world’s tropic zone.

RITUAL explores relationships between contemporary Indigenous art and ritual within the global context of transcultural ritual practices in the Asia Pacific region.

The defining characteristic of ritual, as a recurrent act based on the concept of passage and transformation to bring the past into the present, is explored through artworks that engage with social, divinatory, and cyclical rituals and respond to the practice, processes, and performative nature of rituals.
