MAKIN WHOOPEE & COCO LOCO: OFFBEAT LOCAL GIFTS TO GIVE

Hello and welcome to the forthcoming holiday season! No matter how you celebrate Christmas, there are normally gifts to be given. Shopping for the person that has everything they probably need should be special!

Two things I like to look for are:

• Keep it local- and keeping money in our own community

• Shopping sustainably – this means thinking of the small, handmade producers that have a small footprint on our environment. They also create something that is unique and you will have a direct, positive impact on the person you bought if from, as well as the person you give it to. Make sure your gift is made with love as well as given with love.

MAKIN’ WHOOPEE

Makin’ Whoopee is venturing out from their Shields Street store and into the suburbs with the return of their Makers Markets at Edge Hill State School on Pease Street, Cairns.

The Makin’ Whoopee Curated Makers Markets Christmas 2019, from 9am-2pm on Saturday, November 16th, in the big green shed at Edge Hill State School. This event showcases the talents and products of approximately 35 small businesses and artisans who have been hand-picked by the Makin’ Whoopee Team. There’s something for everyone; jewellery, candles, flowers, artworks and more! All these gifts are handmade, Australian made and (in most cases) made right in here in Cairns! You will also be able to buy handmade snacks and other delicious bites to eat, whilst listening to live tunes throughout the day.

COCO LOCO

Coco Loco presents Tutti Frutti from 3pm to 10pm on Saturday, November 30th at Laneway Green (Motel Nomad) Please note, this is a ticketed event! Chica Chica Boom!!! After the huge success of the first two Coco Loco events in 2017 & 2018, this is a one night only art + music + performance extravaganza celebrating all things local, loco, tropical and fruity!

Some of the amazing artists featured include Andrea Huelin, Caroline Mudge, Felicity Bury, Grace Lillian- Lee, Hayley Gillespie (oh, that’s me!), India Collins, Laila Whiteing, Malachi Aird, Ricky Beresford, Serena Kuring. You’ll be entertained throughout the evening by some fantastic doctors of the turntables like DJ Bart, Cameron Kennedy, Concierj, DJ Debrey and Fred Cuzon.

Coco Loco is the brainchild of Caroline Mudge and Laila Whiteing, who wanted to create a unique and quirky space for artists to exhibit their work alongside DJ’s and performers. You won’t want to miss this!

Merry Christmas and Happy Giving xx
